Lottery tickets were popular in Iran during the 1960s and 1970s. The Iranian revolution put an stop to their sale due to the religious restrictions on “gambling”.

In February and March of 1960 a New Zealander tourist took a trip from England to India on land. He only has fours pictures of this trip, three of them taken in Iran. They are all discolored and faded but they still show something of Tehran in 1960.

Here are a few examples from the newly launched permanent online exhibition, “Graphics of Revolution and War: Iranian Poster Arts.” The digital exhibit showcases posters from the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88). Along with the introductory essay, thematic sections, and poster descriptions, the website also provides additional commentary (including information about the provenance of the poster collection at the University of Chicago) as well as poster artists’ information and further bibliographic resources.
