Graphics of Revolution & War

Here are a few examples from the newly launched permanent online exhibition, “Graphics of Revolution and War: Iranian Poster Arts.” The digital exhibit showcases posters from the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88). Along with the introductory essay, thematic sections, and poster descriptions, the website also provides additional commentary (including information about the provenance of the poster collection at the University of Chicago) as well as poster artists’ information and further bibliographic resources.

Le Costume Historique

Originally published in France between 1876 and 1888, Auguste Racinet’s Le Costume Historique was the most wide-ranging and intelligent study of clothing ever published. Covering the world history of costume, dress, and style from antiquity through the end of the 19th century, the great work — “consolidated” in 1888 into six volumes containing nearly 500 plates — remains, to this day, completely unique in its scope and detail.
